Somatic Resourcing KAP Group (8/3-10/20)

This KAP group will be based in embodied practices which will support participants in nervous system (emotional) regulation, increasing sense of presence, developing self-compassion, and creating a greater sense of connection to life.

Each session an embodied practice will be introduced to help guide our work together.

In practicing these skills, participants will be asked to connect with their bodies, and occasionally, use movement to further develop these practices. No prior experience with this is needed.

Below are some examples of common somatic resources that may be offered, depending on what is needed by the group as a whole and the discretion of the facilitator.

Grounding: Grounding supports our sense of safety in our bodies and in the world. Feeling grounded allows for discharge, surrender, support and solid contact with ourselves and others.

Centering: Centering is connecting with oneself. We focus our attention on sensations inside the body, an internal balancing point or alignment.

Release : The ability to release tension, emotion, thought and the entire body to the will of life force is an essential healing skill. We need to be able to let go in order to receive.

Pause: Pause is an alive and receptive state where we can become aware of subtler physical, emotional, mind or soul states. Pause practice opens us to notice, feel and sense.

Pendulation: The ability to notice tension in the body and then notice ease, the ability to direct our attention in a way that includes both ease and tension to support nervous system regulation.

About the Facilitator

I consider myself to be a transpersonal, somatic therapist.

This means I enjoy bringing the physical and spiritual dimensions into the treatment room in addition to our thoughts and feelings.

This holistic approach helps us to access our inner wisdom and learn to trust ourselves.  I am also an EMDR trained therapist  and this modality can help re-organize traumatic events by accessing our innate healing capacity.

I also enjoy providing psychedelic-assisted therapy through our KAP program. Psychedelics create a state change, and when combined with therapy, that state can become a trait change over time.  Our collective consciousness needs to elevate the level of healing to surpass the collective trauma. I believe as we each do this work for ourselves, that expands and impacts those around us positively.

I support clients in bearing gifts out of trauma, creating empowering narratives, focusing on their strengths and resilience, and having healthy relationships.

In my other work life, I have been a professional bodyworker for over 25 years and an Open Floor movement teacher (www.openfloor.org). These body and movement based practices help to bring compassionate awareness to unhealthy and unworkable patterns. I also utilize parts work, based on Internal Family Systems (https://ifs-institute.com/) to support integration of the un- wanted and un-welcome aspects of ourselves.

I acknowledge that we live inside of oppressive systems of power that perpetuate negative and limiting ways of being that are harmful to ourselves and others. I offer a trauma-informed and non-judgmental space for people of all genders, races, ethnicities, and religious/spiritual affiliations to be honored and uplifted.

I look forward to working with you!
