Valerie Cherrin

For over 25 years, I have been a professional bodyworker, supporting individuals through healing journeys with touch and somatic awareness practices. Being a bodyworker helped me understand that we hold our experiences in our bodies, along with our beliefs about ourselves and who we are in the world.  These unconscious patterns remain hidden until we learn to shine the light of our awareness on them.

I am also an Open Floor movement instructor (www.openfloor.org), which is a dance practice where we learn to move from the inside-out to enable creative expression and somatic resources that help us stay centered during rough times.

As a counselor, I enjoy bringing both embodiment and expressive arts into the treatment room because words are often not enough. I take a client-centered approach, working with curiosity and compassion to support clients in honing their internal guidance system and learning to trust themselves.  Viewing therapy as part of a healing journey, I support clients in bearing gifts out of suffering, creating empowering narratives, focusing on their strengths and resilience, and having healthy relationships.

I acknowledge that we live inside of oppressive systems of power that perpetuate negative and limiting ways of being that are harmful to ourselves and others. I offer a trauma-informed and non-judgmental space for people of all genders, races, ethnicities, and religious/spiritual affiliations to be honored and uplifted.

I look forward to working with you!
